NEED – News Literacy on Board

The “NEED – News Literacy on Board” project is being carried out with the support of the EU, within the Erasmus+ programme, under the action “Partnerships for Cooperation in Adult Education”. The Bulgarian organisation Nikanor leads the project, with partners including the Belgrade City Library, Hacettepe University from Turkey, and the Adult Education Centre – UPI Žalec from Slovenia.

The project’s main goal is to enhance citizens’ news literacy, which is essential for adequately assessing the reliability and credibility of news/information. The project aims to equip citizens with the skills needed for active and informed participation in social life.

Following the successful implementation of the ESSENTIAL project, we continue to educate citizens in news literacy through this project, this time using an innovative method of game-based learning combined with hybrid learning.

The main objectives of this project are:

    1. Development of innovative game-based learning and assessment methods for adults in news literacy and critical thinking education – creation of educational content and tools: two board games and an online platform
    2. Improving the human and educational resources of four partner organisations, associated partners and other stakeholders Europewide to actively educate citizens in news literacy and critical thinking by using the game-based learning method
    3. Promoting project results at the local, national, and European level.

The project’s target groups are 1) adults and 2) all people engaged in the formal and informal education of adults.

With the objectives mentioned above, the following concrete results will be produced:

    1. A game-based assessment tool for assessing the actual knowledge and skill level of learners on news literacy and critical thinking;
    2. An educational board game which includes different difficulty levels to teach news literacy and critical thinking in an innovative way to adults;
    3. An online platform linked to the board game, with educational content.
