Library “Ilija Garašanin”, Grocka

The Central Library “Ilija Garašanin” is located in Gročka within the protected environmental complex “Gročanska čaršija”. The network consists of the Central Library and 3 branches. As part of the Central Library, there is a lending department, a reading room and Legat prof. Dr. Aleksandar Kostić. The children’s department is separate. There are two branches in Kaludjerica, in ul. King Peter the First 7 and in Vrčin, ul. November 29, 25. In the branches, the fund for adult users and the children’s fund are combined. The total collection of the municipal library is about 70,000 publications.

The public library in Grotska was founded in the middle of the 19th century by Ilija Garašanin, a well-known statesman and native of Grotno, whose name it bears. After the establishment of the Library, people aware of the importance of the Library as an institution contributed to the creation and enrichment of the fund. After the Second World War, the Library started working as part of the National University. By the decision of the Municipal Assembly of Grocka dated 24 December 1985, the building in which the Library is located was transferred to the National University of Grocka for the purpose of housing the Main Library.

The library achieves significant cooperation with many organizations and institutions in the area of ​​the Municipality of Grocka.

On January 9, 1989, the library became one of the organizational units of the Belgrade City Library.
