Saturday: 8AM–2PM
Since 1954, there has been one department of the Library at the City Municipality of Mladenovac. The library in Mladenovac was officially opened in 1968 and has been called “Kosta Đukić” ever since. Since 1989, the Library has been one of the organizational units of the Belgrade City Library. Since 2000, the Library has been given the name it bears today – “Despot Stefan Lazarević”. It is located in the building of the Workers’ University, on the first floor.
The central department of the Library has two departments in its composition: the Adult Department and the Children’s Department. It has a collection of about 71,000 library items. About 5,500 members are enrolled annually. In addition to its core activity, the Library organizes a large number of educational and cultural programs, literary, artistic, musical and multimedia content.
The library has been organizing the literary event “Šumadija Metafora” since 1987 in cooperation with the Mladenovac City Municipality and the Cultural Center. “Šumadija metaphors” represent an international competition of poets and prose writers. Foreign guests and special editions give this festival a special quality. As part of the “Šumadija metaphors” competition, there is also a competition for children’s works, but exclusively for schools from Mladenovac. Since 1999, in addition to the anthology, “Šumadijse metafore” has also printed the winner’s book, which represents the first prize in the competition. Since 2002, a charter for life’s work in the field of poetic creation – “Karađorđe” has been established. Among the winners of this charter are famous Serbian writers Ignjatović, Matija Bećković, Radomir Andrić, etc.
