Educational and creative workshops for children with disabilities
The project was realized in partnership with the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation and with the cooperation of the Special Elementary School Novi Beograd and the School for Visually Impaired Students ” Veljko Ramadanović”. It was ranked among the ten best library projects at Biblionet 2011.
The project was implemented in two libraries within the BCL network: Library “Sveti Sava” (Zemun) and Library Vuk Karadžić (New Belgrade). It consisted of organizing two types of workshops:
- Application of educational and creative workshops in the preparation of visually impaired children for regular school education;
- Educational and creative workshops for children with intellectual disabilities.
A total of 12 workshops were held:
Six workshops with visually impaired children of older primary school age were held in the municipal library “Sveti Sava” (Zemun).
The workshops covered the following topics:
- Children’s rights (I know children’s rights);
- Prejudices, obstacles and support for the education of visually impaired children in regular school (Blind, so what);
- Organization of the teaching process in a regular school (Me in a regular school);
Six workshops with children with difficulties in the intellectual development of older primary school age, were held in the municipal library “Vuk Karadžić”, Branch Library “Fontana”.
The workshops covered the following topics:
- Ecology (From seed to book);
- Social development (The book is my best friend);
- Drama workshop (We read, play and act).
As part of the project, we enabled the students of the Faculty of Special Education and Rehabilitation to attend workshops and learn about the application of informal forms of education in places that do not involve only school conditions.
